Flagstone Patios

Natural stone underfoot: cut, fit and set by hand so it looks like it has always been there.

Flagstone Patios in the Hill Country

Built for how you live outside

Nothing looks more at home in the Texas Hill Country than natural flagstone. Every piece is different, so every patio is one of a kind, and a well-built flagstone patio only gets better with age.

We build flagstone patios two ways. Mortar-set patios go on a concrete base for a clean, level, low-maintenance surface that’s perfect for furniture and outdoor dining. Dry-laid patios are set on compacted base with decomposed granite or steppable groundcover in the joints for a softer, more natural look. Either way, the stone is hand-cut and fitted, not just dropped in place.

We build flagstone patios throughout Lago Vista, Jonestown, Cedar Park, Volente, Leander and Liberty Hill, and in communities from Tessera and The Hollows to Travisso and Santa Rita Ranch.

What we build

  • Mortar-set flagstone on a reinforced concrete base
  • Dry-laid flagstone with DG or groundcover joints
  • Flagstone over existing concrete (resurfacing)
  • Steps, landings and multi-level terraces
  • Pool decks and coping
  • Seat walls and patio borders
  • Sealing for stain and weather resistance

Choose your look

Oklahoma flagstone

Earthy browns and golds; one of the most popular choices in Central Texas.

Arizona flagstone

Warm rose, buff and red tones that stay cool underfoot.

Texas limestone flag

Creamy, bright and local; ties right into limestone homes.

Pattern-cut vs. irregular

Geometric cut stone for formal spaces, natural shapes for organic ones.

Local know-how

Why flagstone patios fail, and how we build ours

Most flagstone failures around Lake Travis come down to what’s underneath: expansive clay that heaves, water that pools against the foundation, or a thin base that was never compacted. We excavate, build a compacted base or reinforced slab sized to your soil, and set grade so water sheds away from the house. On sloped lots, that often means a small retaining wall or step-down terrace built into the design.

FAQ

Flagstone Patios: common questions

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, call and ask. You'll talk to the person who'll build it.

Is mortar-set or dry-laid flagstone better?

Mortar-set is best for dining areas, furniture and anywhere you want a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Dry-laid costs less, drains naturally and looks more rustic, and it suits paths, fire pit areas and native landscapes. We’ll recommend the right one for each part of your yard.

Can you put flagstone over my existing concrete patio?

If the slab is sound and not badly cracked or sloped toward the house, yes. Resurfacing an old slab with mortar-set flagstone is one of the fastest ways to upgrade a back yard.

Does flagstone get hot in the Texas sun?

All stone warms up, but lighter stones like Arizona buff and Texas limestone stay noticeably cooler than dark stone or concrete. That’s a big factor for pool decks.

How do I maintain a flagstone patio?

Sweep it, rinse it, and reseal mortar-set stone every few years. Dry-laid patios may need a joint top-off with DG after heavy rains.

Justin and team have kept my yard in shape, done more serious cleanup of shrubs and trees and do a fantastic job. I have seen some of his bigger jobs and they are amazing. Love the work and the people conscientious. Glad to use a local company.

We have been using Just-N-Time for a couple of years now. After trying out other services in the area that were very lackluster, Just-N-Time has proven to be the most reliable and is extremely focused on doing a great job and providing great service.
