Retaining Walls

Turn a slope into a terrace. Built with drainage behind it so it stays standing for decades.

Retaining Walls in the Hill Country

Built for how you live outside

Many homes around Lake Travis sit on slopes, and a good retaining wall is how you get usable yard out of them. Walls create level terraces for patios, lawns and gardens, stop erosion, and add the kind of stone architecture that makes a Hill Country property look finished.

A retaining wall is a structure first and a feature second. Ours are built with an excavated, compacted footing, drainage aggregate and perforated pipe behind the wall, and proper batter so the wall leans into the hill. The water behind a wall is what knocks it over, so we give it somewhere to go.

We build retaining walls throughout Lago Vista, Jonestown, Cedar Park, Volente, Leander and Liberty Hill, and in communities from Tessera and The Hollows to Travisso and Santa Rita Ranch.

What we build

  • Cut limestone and chopped block walls
  • Natural boulder and moss-rock walls
  • Segmental block retaining walls
  • Terraced multi-tier walls
  • Seat walls and garden walls
  • Drainage aggregate, pipe and outlets
  • Wall caps, steps and lighting prep

Materials & styles

Choose your look

Chopped limestone

Classic Texas masonry: warm cream tones with a rugged face.

Natural boulders

Big, organic and immediate; great for lake lots and native landscapes.

Segmental block

Engineered systems for taller walls and consistent modern lines.

Terracing

Two shorter walls often beat one tall one on looks, cost and stability.

Local know-how

Hill Country slopes need real engineering

Lago Vista and Jonestown lots can drop hundreds of feet toward the lake over rock ledges and loose caliche, and Leander and Liberty Hill clay pushes hard when it’s saturated. Wall height, soil, surcharge (driveways, pools, structures above) and drainage all change how a wall has to be built. Taller walls may require an engineered design and a permit, and we’ll flag that before anything gets quoted.

FAQ

Retaining Walls: common questions

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, call and ask. You'll talk to the person who'll build it.

Why do retaining walls fail?

Water. Hydrostatic pressure from saturated soil behind a wall with no drainage is the number-one cause of bowing and collapse. Every wall we build gets drainage aggregate and an outlet path.

Does my retaining wall need an engineer?

Taller walls, and walls holding back a driveway, pool or structure, commonly require an engineered design and permit. Requirements vary by city, and we’ll tell you what applies to your lot.

Limestone or block: which is better?

Natural limestone looks more at home in the Hill Country and ages beautifully. Engineered block is ideal for taller walls and tighter budgets. Many projects use block for the structure and limestone where it shows.

Can a retaining wall fix my drainage problem?

Often it’s part of the fix. We look at where water enters and leaves the property and combine walls with grading, French drains or dry creek beds as needed.

Justin and team have kept my yard in shape, done more serious cleanup of shrubs and trees and do a fantastic job. I have seen some of his bigger jobs and they are amazing. Love the work and the people conscientious. Glad to use a local company.

We have been using Just-N-Time for a couple of years now. After trying out other services in the area that were very lackluster, Just-N-Time has proven to be the most reliable and is extremely focused on doing a great job and providing great service.
